The blog’s activity has been sporadic since summer of last year. I’ve only posted a half dozen new reviews since August, and that’s mostly been on me for not sitting down consistently to write. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t more places in Iowa City to review. On the contrary, I’ve still been visiting places all across the city and have the bones of over two dozen more reviews in the forms of notes on my phone. I will be starting to flesh those out and get them written and edited for the blog over the following weeks. The goal is to go back to weekly posts to get through all of my Iowa City reviews. However, those reviews will come to an end at some point, as the biggest update to break, and reason why I’ve been inactive for the past couple months specifically, is that I moved out of Iowa City and now live in Charleston, West Virginia. This process has been way more involved than I expected, but now that I’m here, I plan on starting the Charleston chapter of whiskey reviews for the blog. As I continue to work on my Iowa City reviews, steps will be taken to make it so that once my Iowa City list is complete, I can immediately begin a new list for Charleston bars and restaurants. A new phase of the blog is on the horizon, even if it will look like business as usual for most of the year as I release the rest of my Iowa City reviews. Let me know in the comments if it would be better for the reader if I just posted each blog as I wrote it so as to speed up the process of completing the Iowa City rankings.
With this blog, I’ve strived to create a proper whiskey guide for Iowa City. It’s been one of my favorite projects I’ve ever undertaken, even if I’ve fallen off the horse every now and again.Thank you to anyone who has read this blog or will read it in the future. Here’s to a new chapter for this blog and in my life! Slainte!
Post Script: I wasn’t able to review every place that served whiskey in Iowa City before I moved away like I had hoped. I got to most of them, but there will be a couple of notable omissions such as TCB, La Wine, and 2 Dogs Pub. Hopfeully I can visit Iowa City and some point and round out my list, but without living there, i can’t expect to keep up with the changing dining and drinking landscape of Iowa City, so most likely, once I run out of reviews for Iowa City, that will be my final list for the time being. I will try to keep up on closures of places that I have reviewed so that I can make sure the list a living document of where to get the best whiskey selection in the city and not just a snapshot in time. Feel free to comment or contact me if there are major closures of places I have reviewed or if there are major openings of new places I need to go back and check out, so I can update the list accordingly. I am aware that one of the current top 10 spots, Shorts Burger and Shine may be permanently closing or otherwise undergoing a restructuring to the point that it may be a completely different restaurant under the same name when it finally reopens. I was hoping they’d open back up before I moved so that I could go at least one more time since they had been closed since early December, but whatever the next phase of Shorts will have to go on without me. I’ll be monitoring that situation as closely as I can from afar.
